About the style
Ghis style manipulates color dimensions in an approach that is often constructivist or completely impulsive, evoking movement in a dynamic vision of form and gesture. Color, or the interactions and exchanges between its variations, is at the heart of the creative process, which is sometimes reminiscent of Kandinsky's theory of forms (Concerning the Spiritual in Art), where each form and each color possesses a function, a force, a direction. Sometimes, it is the subtle "symbolic" constructions that speak of evocations, or of a distant, even mythical, impression. Like the impulsive gesture that produces this effect of spontaneity and liberation, the structure or deliberate, sometimes geometric, "construction" also plays an important role in creating a harmonious whole, more solid while generating emotions.
As for his preferred mediums, Ghis Martel uses everything: acrylic, watercolor, collage, airbrushing, ink, and charcoal on canvas, wood, or paper. He prefers not to impose any preconceived limitations on himself and generally follows his instincts in the moment, unless he is inspired by a specific vision that dictates the best tools and mediums to bring it to life.
